The treatment that examines the condition of the teeth and the tissues around the teeth, and deals with the diagnosis and treatment of possible diseases in these tissues is called periodontology. The presence of inflammation or progressing periodontal disease in the tissues supporting the teeth may also cause the loss of healthy teeth. Periodontal treatment is the main treatment in dentistry. It aims to ensure that patients maintain their own oral hygiene.
People with severe or advanced disease of the gums and the tissues that support the teeth are often candidates for periodontal surgery.
There are four different stages of periodontal disease, from mild to advanced.
Gingivitis: Gingivitis is the first stage of periodontal disease. It is a condition caused by the accumulation of plaque in or around the gum line.
Mild Periodontal Disease: This stage, the second stage of periodontal disease, affects both the bone and the fibers that support the tooth roots. At the second stage, the infection has spread to the bone and has begun to destroy it. For this tartar cleaning can be used to deeply clean the gums.
Moderate Periodontal Disease: In this third stage, there are deeper periodontal pockets that allow bacteria to attack the bones and bloodstream more aggressively.
Advanced Periodontal Disease: This is the final stage of periodontal disease, when bacteria significantly spoil the bone that supports the teeth.
