The technique used to close small deformities in the teeth, slight crookedness, and small gaps between the side teeth is called bonding. Bonding, sometimes called composite bonding or tooth bonding, is a cosmetic dentistry treatment used to beautify your smile.
Preparation for tooth bonding is required. Anesthesia is usually not necessary unless the bond is used to fill a decayed tooth, or the tooth needs to be drilled to change its shape, or the chip is close to the nerve. Then the dental bonding is performed. The tooth bonding process takes approximately 30 to 60 minutes.
Bonding is the easiest and least expensive cosmetic dental procedure. Unlike veneers and crowns, which are specialized dental veneers that must be produced in a laboratory, bonding can usually be done in a single exam unless several teeth are involved. Another advantage over veneers and crowns is the minimal removal of tooth enamel. Also, anesthesia is usually not required unless the tooth bonding is done to fill a cavity.
